We are proud to celebrate the teacher and students of the month from December here at Mills University Studies High School!

These students were recognized for their hard work, undying dedication, outstanding attendance, and positive attitude. They are known to help their fellow students, take care of their business, and excel in many areas - not just the classrooms. These attributes will pay off as they move from high school out into the world!

Our teacher, Ms. Hunter-Weaver, was nominated by one of her colleagues who said, "Ms. Weaver comes to class everyday with one goal: to teach math in the best possible way. She meticulously leads students through notes that are guided with examples, diagrams, and explanations, color coding all of the steps and making things as clear as I have ever witnessed in a math classroom. She is a teacher that maintains high expectations for all students and has not wavered from those expectations from day one."

Please join us in congratulating these outstanding people who make Mills High School the place to be!

At Mills University Studies High School, the elective courses are just as important as others. Often, they are the students' favorite classes as well! Take a look at these educators in full "teacher mode" as they model, coach, guide, lead, and help our students truly become well-rounded scholars.

You can see Mr. Bean discussing two-point perspective drawing with a student, Ms. Young demonstrating print-making with her class, Master Sergeant Dunn practicing formation with his JROTC cadets, and Mr. Bruce leading orchestra rehearsal with his musicians.

We are thankful for such hard-working teachers who make such a difference to our students!

It's that time! Time for students to select their courses for next year. Our school counselors, Ms. Deneke and Ms. Spaight, have been working with all of our underclassmen students to make their plans for the 2026-2027 school year. Please be sure that your students have completed their course selection form and that you have signed it. Those should be returned to the school counselors ASAP! If you have any questions, please contact the school and ask for the counseling center.

Our English classes are currently working on argumentative writing and the concepts of ethos, pathos, and logos. Ms. Galloway's classes experienced a hands-on activity that helped them understand the differences. They had the opportunity to show their learning by sorting examples of each. Next steps - adding this type of language - ethos, pathos, and logos - in their own writing!

The Arkansas Community Foundation recently featured the work happening at PCSSD high schools through the Academies of Central Arkansas. The piece highlights how strong leadership and meaningful partnerships are helping students connect their learning to real opportunities beyond graduation.

It’s worth a read — especially to hear directly from the students who are living this experience every day. Read more: https://tinyurl.com/yu9r69c8

🏆 This morning, the Arkansas State Board of Education honored Ms. Elizabeth Prewett as the 2025 Arkansas History Teacher of the Year, selected by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

🔰 Ms. Prewett teaches at Mills University Studies High School, where she also serves as Department Chair for the Design Career Academy, mentors novice teachers, and contributes to the AVID Site Team and Guiding Coalition. Her innovative approach—such as integrating Arkansas history into children’s books and student-created comic strips—brings history to life in the classroom.

👏 She also earned National Board Certification in December. Congratulations, Ms. Prewett! Your leadership and creativity continue to inspire students and educators across Arkansas. #PCSSDproud #MillsOnTheMove #ServeAll

Before teachers welcomed students back to their classrooms, they were the ones learning. On Monday, Brad Chapin, who is a master 's-level psychologist out of Topeka, Kansas, was our presenter and shared his self-regulation training system with our staff. Teachers learned about physical, emotional, and cognitive regulation skills to improve their own practice and support students' academic performance, social interactions, motivation, self-esteem, and more.
