PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. -- Landmark Elementary art teacher, Kelly Emerson, has been selected as the Arkansas Art Educator of the Year by the Arkansas Art Educators organization.

“I am surprised, humbled and honored to receive this award,” said Ms. Emerson. “There are so many absolutely awesome art educators in the state of Arkansas. Through the Arkansas Art Educators organization I have made so many friends and learned so much. It is because of their generosity and support that I have grown as a person and as an art teacher. To have these educators recognize me is overwhelming. This award makes me want to strive to continue to grow and to be the best art teacher I can be and to pass it on.”

Ms. Emerson will receive her award at the organization’s annual conference in November.

Arkansas Art Educators President, Patricia McCauley, had this to say about Ms. Emerson: “Kelly Emerson is Kind, Engaging, a Loyal Leader, and Young-at-heart. As an art teacher, she is Effective, Motivated, Endless in her devotion to her students, Resourceful (as every art teacher has to be), Supportive to her students and colleagues, Open-hearted, and Nominated for Art Teacher of the Year because she deserves the recognition of how special she is as an art teacher for Landmark Elementary.”

Arkansas Art Educators organization has been in place since 1922, with the group celebrating their 100th anniversary this year! The organization advocates for art education, provides quality professional development for art instructors in the state, and discusses ways to further art education in Arkansas’s school system.
